Singer looks back on her own career in scaled down performance

Lady Gaga spent the past several months away from the spotlight, recovering from surgery after a hip fracture. Since she has a new album coming out later this year, she picked the MTV Video Music Awards 2013 as the venue for her official comeback.

Below is a video of her performance of her brand new single “Applause,” which is included on the “ARTPOP” album.

Even though she promised she would not be scaling down and that she would deliver the “biggest” performance of her lifetime, you can see she went for the exact opposite of that.

Gaga paid tribute to her earlier work, danced and sang, but there was nothing “big” or spectacular about the performance.

Of course, that’s not to say that it was bad or anything, though I did get a feeling that it was rushed, as if she didn’t have the time to come up with something more elaborate.

Must have been because of all those on-stage costume changes.
