MTV bosses are reportedly mad at Kevin Hart for joking about Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson at the VMAs 2012

At last night’s MTV Video Music Awards 2012, Kevin Hart opened the show with the customary monolog, which, as was to be expected considering the media interest in the matter, included a joke on the Kristen Stewart cheating scandal.

Though what he had to say on the topic wasn’t anything truly scandalous, inside sources tell Hollywood Life that MTV bosses definitely didn’t appreciate the joke.

Luckily, both Kristen and Robert were spared the embarrassment as they were both not in the venue when Hart ripped into them: Kristen was at TIFF 2012 to promote her new film, while Pattinson, who did show up later at the event, hadn’t arrived yet.

Even so, MTV would rather Hart had kept his mouth shut about the whole “elephant in the room” thing.

“MTV producers were at first mad that [Kevin] brought up Kristen Stewart and the incident, but it wasn’t a major issue with them because he didn’t harp on it and make it his material for the entire night,” the insider adds.

“They were OK with things mostly because Kristen wasn’t there and the ‘Twilight’ gang hadn’t fully shown up by the time he mentioned things,” notes the spy.

“Rob was oblivious to the situation and he didn’t even hear the joke at the time it was said, so it didn’t have an effect on him when he came out later in the telecast. He was in bright spirits for the limited time he was at the show and backstage,” the same insider goes on to say.

Indeed, Robert and several members of the “Twilight” cast later took to the stage to introduce a brand new trailer for “Breaking Dawn Part 2,” the final installment in the insanely popular series.

As we also informed you earlier today, Hart’s opening monolog was more bark than bite, with the stand-up comedian promising to pick on all celebrities he could think of, but not really doing it.

However, he did have some choice words to say about Kristen, but mostly he insisted on the “so what?” aspect of the problem.

“She allegedly messed around with the director of Snow White and the Huntsman. If she did, so what? It's over. Move on. Look on the bright side, they're now a part of the seven dwarfs. You've got sleepy, grumpy, adultery, cheating,” he said.

On a final note, seeing how all dialog at such an event is scripted, it’s somewhat difficult to believe Hart was the only host to ad-lib.
