VMAs 2012: Alicia Keys Slays with “Girl on Fire” with Nicki Minaj

Alicia Keys hit a very high and amazing note at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards 2012, during a live performance of her brand new single, “Girl on Fire.”

Featuring two special appearances, from rapper Nicki Minaj and gold medal winning gymnast Gabby Douglas, the performance was watched with a lot of interest by Alicia’s biggest fan: her son Egypt, who sat on his father’s shoulders in the audience.

Though there was some speculation on whether Alicia recorded the new track after being inspired by Katniss Everdeen in “The Hunger Games,” the moment Gabby stepped on stage to showcase her incredible moves, it became clear who it was about.

Without a doubt, this was one of the most touching and impressive moments of the night.
