VMAs 2011: Britney Spears Doesn’t Want to Kiss Jo Calderone

Much ink has been spilled on saying that kissing Madonna nearly killed Britney Spears’ music career, so it’s understandable why she wouldn’t want to share a smooth with Lady Gaga at the MTV Video Music Awards, even if Gaga went in drag as Jo Calderone.

As fans must know and we also noted on a separate occasion, Britney was honored at the awards show for her achievements and heavy influence in pop music.

She was this year’s recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, which was presented to her by none other than Jo Calderone, Lady Gaga’s alter ego slash occasional boyfriend slash Italian mechanic turned model friend.

“Britney taught me how to be fearless... She’s a pop legend and the industry wouldn’t be the same without her,” Jo told the audience when introducing Britney, as the crowd cheered him on.

The cheering got even louder when Calderone went on to reveal that he used to have a huge crush on Britney when he was younger, as the video below will also confirm.

“Throughout the years, Britney has given us some of the most iconic music videos of our time,” he went on to say, before a troupe of dancers launched into Britney’s most popular routines, complete with the outfits from said iconic videos.

These included “Baby One More Time,” “Oops!… I Did it Again,” “Crazy,” “Toxic,” “Circus,” “Me Against the Music,” and “Hold it Against Me,” as the clip embedded at the end of the article can confirm.

However, the best moment came when Britney stepped onstage to receive her award and she realized that Jo was only staring at her because he wanted to kiss her on the mouth.

“I’ve done that already,” Britney said laughing into the microphone, hinting that she was now past that phase in her life when she aimed to shock.

After a brief thank-you, Britney and Jo introduced Beyonce, who performed “Love on Top” – and then announced she was pregnant with her first child. Check out the video below.
