VMA Opening: "It's Britney, Bitches"

The countdown to September 9th has begun - with Britney opening the show!

Britney back in the good days, when her performances rocked the VMAs. Hope she can do it again

It's official! No, I mean really, really official! Brit Brit scores another winner as MTV officially confirms that she will indeed open the Video Music Awards on Sunday with a live performance of her new single "Gimme More". And while all the speculations and wild rumors that have been going around lately have kept everybody wondering, it's good to have some good old facts to rely on...only to start speculating again.

"Celebrating her long awaited comeback to her fans, Spears will be performing LIVE her new song 'Gimme More' from her highly anticipated new album due on November 13" a statement from MTV reads. And if you're wondering how come they decided to finally take the chance and allow Britney on stage after all the disasters that have marked her personal and private life lately, here's a very good reason. "I guess, looking back, we've had a great history with her. Some of the biggest TV performances [of her career] have been at the VMAs. And fortunately, [when we approached her about performing], she was into it and excited to do it. I wanted her to come on and make a statement right from the very beginning of the show" stated the show's executive producer.

Sounds like Britney still has some people out there who trust her musical talent and who are more than willing to lend a hand to her comeback. Which is again, very good news. "She'll kill it", the VMA producer added. "I wanted to start the show in a very big and dramatic way, and she's the one to do that. She'll captivate everyone, and set the tone for the rest of the night. There's no one better". Also, the MTV crew confirmed that Criss Angel will play a part in Britney's performance.

It sure sounds like everything points out to a fantastic show. And while this is a very good way for the Britster to break the ice and refresh our memory as to why she was once considered the princess of pop and one of the world's top celebrities, opening the VMAs is a tricky thing. Britney will need to work hard, seeing how it can go either way and she can make a spectacular comeback or screw up even worse than before. And given Britney's past history of live VMA performances, everybody's eyes will be on her and we all have some pretty big expectations. So better get down to work, Brit, and for goodness' sake drop the late night junk food binges - the world is watching you. Don't screw it up!
