One of the applications that many Windows Phone users out there have certainly been waiting for a long time is VLC, and it appears that they might be able to get a taste of the software very soon.

VideoLAN developer Thomas Nigro has confirmed on Twitter that VLC for Windows Phone is under development now, and that it might arrive as soon as August.

According to him, the mobile application will arrive on devices in a Beta flavor in the beginning, but it appears that it will be a public one, which means that all interested users will be able to download and install it.

No specific info on when the media player will arrive has been provided as of now, so it could be released anytime during August. However, we can hope it will be sooner rather than later.

As WPCentral points out, VLC for Windows Phone will also arrive on devices with a music player that should prove a worthy alternative to Xbox Music.

Apparently, VLC will be released only with support for Windows Phone 8.1 devices, but it will provide support for a variety of media files. Hopefully, some additional info on the arrival of VLC for Windows Phone will emerge in the near future, so stay tuned to learn the news.
