VLC (aka VideoLAN), one of the most popular media players on desktop computers, is set to become available for the owners of Windows Phone 8 devices in the coming months, it seems.

The team behind the application has confirmed back in December plans to bring the player to this OS, and has reaffirmed its commitment to that.

At the moment, however, they are still working on the Windows 8 / RT flavor of the app, and the focus will move to the Windows Phone 8 flavor of the software shortly, it seems.

In a recent post on Kickstarter, the team reiterated plans to deliver full support for the mobile operating system, though no specific info on when the app will actually arrive on devices has been provided as of now.

However, given the close relation between Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, users might not have too long to wait.
