Developers are still working to “polish” the final build

As you probably know from our previous reports, VLC for Windows 8 is still in the works right now, even though a preview version was expected to be released in early 2013.

It appears, however, that developers are still working on the app, but a beta build is very likely to be released to those who backed VideoLAN’s Kickstarter campaign as soon as this month.

Jean-Baptiste Kempf, one of the developers involved in the project, told Neowin that “the basic UI is working,” but the team is now trying to polish the app.

“As far as the main work, which is to make it compatible with the Windows Store restrictions, we are still blocked by technical difficulties and we don't know how to fix them, and the lack of external help makes it quite difficult. We probably will send a beta to our backers, this month, as we had promised,” he said.

VLC for Windows 8 will also come with an RT version that will specifically be aimed at users who purchased a tablet running Microsoft’s new Windows RT operating system.
