The VideoLAN development team managed to port their popular media player, VLC, to Android operating system. The freebie is in beta stage at the moment and can be downloaded from Google Play store.

The mobile version of VLC is built for Android 2.1 and up, but for now it will work only on devices with NEON CPU (ARM); however, the developer informs that versions for other hardware, specifically Tegra 2 and ARMv6, are to be released in a few days.

VLC for Android is currently available for all countries, except for USA and Canada.

Despite the developer’s warnings that this build is intended for hackers and power-users, because it is just a beta and, as such it is unstable and slower than the final release, plenty of users already installed it and provided useful feedback.
