An updated flavor of the VLC for Android application is now available for download, namely version 0.9.6, which is the seventh pre-release iteration of the software.

The new app version is still a beta flavor, though it is meant to pave the way for a stable release, which should arrive in the near future.

Unfortunately, the team behind the application has not provided specific details on what was changed inside the software in this build, and we have no idea of what enhancements users should be looking for.

However, considering the fact that this appears to be only a minor update from the previously available version 0.9.5, we might see only some small fixes and improvements available as part of it.

Previously, the app came with hardware decoding, along with a brand-new UI in dark or white colors, while also providing users with DVD iso and menu support, an equalizer, playlist management, and other appealing features.

VLC for Android also comes with hardware acceleration, which is enabled by default in all devices running under Android 4.3 and up, while also offering improved subtitles support and accelerated software decoding.

You can download VLC for Android Beta from Softpedia today. The media player is compatible with all devices running under Android 2.1 and up.

Update: In a recent tweet, VideoLAN has confirmed that the new app iteration comes with various fixes inside, including some for the equalizer and thumbnailer.
