VideoLAN today issued a tweet to its 11.4K followers confirming that the next release of VLC for iOS will include, among other things, folders support. Some of you might not think of it as a big deal, but avid fans of the player will greatly appreciate it.

In a tweet that could use a bit of spellchecking, VideoLAN includes a link to the latest Git commit laid down by contributor Carola Nitz, which shows clear evidence of the team’s intentions to add multiple types of folders.

Various graphical elements are included, some of which indicate that users will have dedicated audio and video folders, as well as directories for other types of content. It remains to be seen if these folders will recognize the file types they’re supposed to hold and automatically copy these files inside.

No word on when VLC for iOS 2.2.3 will be released, but at least the VideoLAN team is keeping us up to speed on their progress.

As far as the current version goes, VLC for iOS 2.2.2 was released earlier this month with the sole purpose of fixing an important audio decoding regression and to update translations. Learn more in our February 7 article on VLC Player 2.2.2.
