After releasing an updated desktop client, VideoLAN this week pushed out a new version of VLC for iOS as well. Promoted to version 2.2.1, this build addresses numerous flaws that have been discovered in the software.

According to the developers, “VLC 2.2.1 brings fixes for the most obvious issues introduced in 2.2.0, and adds native support for 64bit devices like iPhone 5S, iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display.”

In addition to that, the update improves reliability for Dropbox streaming, adds an option to adapt network caching, and includes compatibility fixes for multiple UPnP servers, such as Twonky 7, Serviio 1.4, and XBMC 12. Various fixes are then noted, all of which are listed below.

• Fixed an issue where always the same file in a UPnP folder was played • Fixed a ftp streaming issue from connected servers if file name contains non-ASCII characters or the path contains spaces • Improved stability on iOS 6 • Improved quality of thumbnails
