VLC Changes License Type, Could Get Microsoft's Approval for Windows 8

We’ve already told you that a Windows 8 version of the popular VLC media player is already in the works, but its license type may actually keep the product outside of Windows 8’s Windows Store.

The same happened with the iPad version of the VLC, as the app was removed from the App Store because of its license.

The new VLC with a LGPL license could get back in the App Store and, at the same time, it could receive Microsoft’s green light to show up in the Windows 8-integrated Windows Store.

At the time of this writing, the VLC for Windows 8 project is still in its early stages, so there’s nothing to download right now. A preview, however, is very likely to be unveiled in the near future.
