VideoLAN today rolled out a new version of its famous multimedia player on Windows, thus implementing a new series of fixes for clients running on Microsoft’s flagship operating system.

VLC 2.1.4, which was released on Linux and Mac OS X computers in mid-February, comes on Windows with fixes for an issue in WMV formats with multiple compressed and empty payloads, according to the official release notes published by the parent company today.

At the same time, the new build comes to repair some video output bugs, including subtitle size rendering on Windows machines.

Of course, VLC continues to provide support for basically all versions of Windows currently on the market, including the ancient XP and the newly-released Windows 8.1 on both 32- and 64-bit systems.

Keep in mind however that VLC 2.1.4 currently supports 64-bit Windows installations exclusively, but a 32-bit package is expected to be launched very soon.

In the meantime, a Windows 8.1 Metro version of the player is still in the works, but the application has already received certification to be published in the store, so when the developing team manages to fix some of the issues found recently, the player should be listed for download for everyone.

Overall, the new build is recommended for all users, so download VLC 2.1.4 for Windows right away to fix any bugs you’ve found in the app.
