VIA Technologies has recently announced a series of new products, introducing a new media system processor, the VX855, a new platform for small-sized, power-efficient portable computer systems, or the new Em-ITX form factor standard, earlier this month. Continuing with the release of new products, the company has announced today a new small form factor board, the VIA IVP-7500, designed for platforms of car PCs and transportation devices. According to the manufacturer, the latest product comes to meet the increasing demand for in-car entertainment, as car users today are looking to access their media libraries while on the road.

“Intelligent transportation devices are making the transition from an enthusiast to mainstream audience,” said Daniel Wu, vice president, VIA Embedded, VIA Technologies, Inc. “The VIA IVP-7500 carries our expertise in developing stable, compact, energy-efficient systems to this high-growth sector, bringing with it faster product development cycles and the flexibility to offer consumers more than just a car PC.”

The new IVP-7500 in-vehicle platform boasts an integrated 1GHz Eden ULV CPU, one DDR2 533/400 SODIMM with support for a maximum of 1GB of memory, the integrated VIA UniChrome Pro II 3D/2D AGP graphics with MPEG-2/4 and WMV9 video decoding acceleration and one UltraDMA connector, offering support for a 1.8-inch HDD. In addition, the board also offers a LeadTek GPS module, one Bluetooth module through USB, onboard FM transmitter and a series of on-board I/O connectors that should turn the car console into a true multimedia-ready platform.

Being built with a power efficient x86 processor, the new platform from VIA delivers support for Windows XP Embedded, Linux, and Win CE operating systems. The chip maker also announced that it was offering samples of the new IVP-7500 board to project customers.
