When it officially announced the QuadCore L2400 processor at the end of last week, VIA claimed that the chip is faster than AMD's E-350 APU and now the benchmarks that this affirmation is based upon have finally made their appearance on the Web.

The 1.2GHz clocked QuadCore L2400 was compared with the 1.6GHz E-350 in a system which featured 2GB of 1066MHz DDR3 memory and ran the Windows 7 operating system.

The screen resolution was set at 1280x1024 and both machines used integrated graphics, in VIA's case it was the Chrome9HD and for AMD the Radeon HD 6310 IGP.

VIA used three benchmarks for comparing the performance of the two processors, and the greatest difference between the systems was recorded in the CineBench R10 testing application, where the L2400 outperformed the E-350 by 100 percent.

However, the other two bench scenarios aren't as flattering for VIA's QuadCore CPU as SYSMark 2007 shows only a 5% performance increase over the E-350, just as is the case with the 3DMark 06 overall score.

Much like Intel's first quad-core chips based on the Penryn architecture, the QuadCore L2400 was built by pairing together two dual-core dies on the same chip package.

The two independent cores communicate with each other through VIA's V4 front-side bus which works at 1333MHz and is compatible with the company's existing chipset and motherboard infrastructure.

As noted earlier, the base frequency of the L2400 is set at 1.2GHz, but the chip can automatically adjust its operating frequency by using the Adaptive Overclocking technology to reach speeds up to 1.46GHz.

According to the company, the VIA QuadCore L2400 is expected to ship in the third quarter of this year and will be used in a wide range of products, including netbooks, low-cost desktops, small-form-factor PCs, and mini servers. (via Impress PC Watch)

A quad-core is faster than a dual-core!? No....

Making us fool...VIA is quadcore runs at 28 watt idle..and E-350 at 12 watt idle..2 core are more and power usage is also doubled...and in overall experience it beats Brazos by 5 %..haha AMD is still winner..!!
