VIA Technologies, Inc, a worldwide leading maker of power efficient x86 processor platforms, announced yesterday a full featured, entirely fanless panel PC designed for display applications in demanding environments, the VIA VIPRO VP7710 touch screen panel PC. The new VIA VIPRO is rugged, stable and flexible, and comes as the first product from an entire series of advanced technology displays created by the company.

As touch screen technologies have begun to be widely accepted, the VIA VIPRO is aiming at those looking for a cost effective intelligent display for use in commercial applications such as ticketing, ATM, vending and information kiosks. The new VIA touch screen panel PC can also be used in sophisticated fleet deployment infrastructures in transport, delivery and logistics enterprises. VIA VIPRO is also well suited for human-machine interface (HMI) industrial applications such as factory automation and control, as it supports a second independently configured screen to be added for dual-display applications.

The chassis of VIA VIPRO uses a combination of heavy steel and aluminum and is able to provide ample shock and vibration protection to the vibrant 10.4" TFT display it houses. Moreover, the touch screen itself is compliant to IP65 standards, as it is both water and dust resistant. The new ultra thin VIA VIPRO allows for easy installation via wall, table, panel or VESA mounting options in a variety of positions so that it would be visible to all from a wider than normal viewing angle.

“The VIA VIPRO is the first in a series of cost-effective, intelligent touch screen panel displays from VIA,” said Daniel Wu, Vice President, VIA Embedded, VIA Technologies, Inc. “Intuitive information delivery has quickly become a necessity for today's modern kiosk and vending machines. The VIA VIPRO addresses the need for a flexible and reliable solution.”

The new VIA touch screen panel PC supports both a 1.6GHz VIA Eden or 1.0GHz C7 processor, as well as up to 1GB of DDR2 system memory. It also includes VIA UniChrome Pro II 2D/3D graphics and MPEG-2/4, WMV9 hardware accelerated decoding. In addition, it allows for an independently configured display to be configured through a VGA port for dual-display applications.

The 10.4" TFT display features a wide viewing angle and light transmission of 82.5 percent. The VIA VIPRO features support for IDE and S-ATA 2.5" hard drives along with two USB 2.0 ports, three COM ports, variable RC settings and PS/2 support. Standard audio jacks deliver HD audio.
