VIA, a company that specializes in providing users with power-efficient x86 processor platforms, has announced recently that it has scored an agreement with AAEON Technology, a motherboard maker that is focused on single board production lines and which has adopted VIA's C7 and VIA Eden processors in its latest ETX board. The new product is meant to provide support for designing high-end electronic gaming and entertainment systems.

“The ETX-CX700M is the first product from AAEON to feature VIA's uniquely power-efficient and highly integrated processor platform,” said Daniel Wu, vice president of VIA Embedded, VIA Technologies, Inc. “We are proud to announce AAEON as an important tier one partner and look forward to a long and mutually prosperous relationship.”

According to the specifications of the new board, customers will be provided with a 4.5 x 3.7-inch ETX COM format that boasts a 1.6GHz VIA Eden or a 2.0GHz VIA C7 processor, combined with VIA's fully integrated CX700M media system processor, or chipset. Dubbed EXT-CX700M, the board has been designed to support up to 1GB of DDR2 memory. Additional features include an IDE channel and two SATA II ports, in addition to a compact flash socket and support for 10/100 Ethernet networking. The integrated media processor is capable of delivering support for screen resolutions of up to 1600 x 1200, with up to 128MB of system memory available for the video memory. The board also sports hardware acceleration for MPEG-4, MPEG-2 and WMV formats.   “AAEON is pleased to expand its portfolio of ETX form factor products to include a product that takes advantage of VIA's processor platform, offering a versatile solution for niche markets that we believe will enhance our reputation as an industry leader,” said Wayne Chen, VP of Embedded Platform Solutions Division, AAEON Technology, Inc.
