VIA Technologies, a leading manufacturer of power-efficient x86 processor platforms, announced today the launch of the new VIA eNote Turnkey solution, a new, thin and light portable computer system that has been designed to deliver the performance of a mainstream notebook in a netbook form factor. The new system has been built on VIA's low-power Nano processors, combined with the Sequans Mobile WiMAX chip technology, all within a 11.6-inch design that will be demoed at the 4G World event in Chicago, between September 15-18.

“Sequans technology brings the best in mobile WiMAX connectivity to the VIA eNote Turnkey Solution,” Richard Brown, vice president of marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc., said. “The result is a device that, for the first time, fuses the best features from the netbook and notebook segments resulting in a highly connected mobile product that is unmatched in both functionality and value.”

VIA's new eNote Turnkey portable computer has been designed on the chip maker's VX800 digital media IGP chipset, boasting a 1.3GHz VIA Nano processor and the VIA Chrome 9, DirectX 9.0-capable graphics solution. Boasting a 11.6-inch form factor and a 1.3kg weight, the portable system can be configured with up to 2GB of DDR2 memory and Microsoft's Windows Vista Basic, XP and various Linux distributions. In terms of connectivity, the system is featured with a wide array of options, including WiFi, Bluetooth, optional AGPS, for one configuration, while a second model offers WiMAX, HSDPA and EV-DO/W-CDMA solutions.

The laptop has been featured with a new Mobile WiMAX chip solution that has been integrated by Sequans Communications, providing customers with an ultraportable computer system that can be permanently connected using the new WiMAX technology standard.

“The VIA eNote Turnkey Solution is one of the most advanced mobile notebooks in the world,” Georges Karam, Sequans CEO, added. “It incorporates all the features one would expect in a state-of-the-art ultra mobile product, plus all the connectivity options that users need to experience truly high speed connectivity anywhere they go.”
