On Friday, luxury brand VERTU has officially announced a new Android-based smartphone, namely the VERTU Ti Ferrari Limited Edition, a handset that was available for pre-order for the past week or so, and which lands on shelves with a design inspired by the Ferrari F12berlinetta.

Built in collaboration with the car company, the new smartphone packs the unique DNA of VERTU Ti, but moves closer to the materials, design and sounds of Ferrari than any other VERTU handset.

Packing a 3.7-inch WVGA landscape, brilliant, high contrast display, the new mobile phone also features a 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, along with 64GB of internal memory.

Furthermore, the handset sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with auto focus and twin LED flash, while packing a 1.3MP front camera for video calling.

The specifications list of the new mobile phone also includes WiFi 802.11 a,b,g, n, Bluetooth, GPS receiver, HSPA+, Cat24, 42Mb/s Downlink, Cat6 5.76Mb/s Uplink, 3.5mm audio socket, NFC capabilities, and a battery capable of delivering up to 7 hours and 20 minutes of talk time.

However, the main selling point of the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich-based device is its design, which reflects the sweeping rear curves of the Ferrari F12berlinetta.

“The pillow of the VERTU Ti Ferrari has been crafted from Alutex – a special lightweight composite weave used to stunning effect on Ferrari interiors and painstakingly colour-matched to the red Ferrari leather using a new technology unique to Vertu,” the company explains.

“In another first, two Ferrari leathers – Red and Black – form a dynamic stripe around the casing of the phone. Stitched in the same style as Ferrari seats, the soft leathers – as found in Ferrari GT cars – were specially treated by Vertu to be strong enough to withstand the rigors of use on a mobile phone.”

The company also notes that even the most challenging aspects of the phone’s back plate were designed to mirror the Ferrari F12berlinetta, such as the specially rounded camera housing, which was inspired by the iconic tail lights of the car.
