Utah Becomes the First State Government to Offer iPhone Applications

Residents of the state of Utah are getting the first iPhone applications developed by a state government in the US. Utah.Gov, the official Web site of the state of Utah, has announced the release of the two free iPhone applications, immediately available through the iTunes App Store – Utah.Gov and Utah Professional License Lookup.

Utah.Gov claims that the free apps provide a quick reference to locate state agencies, services and current news for the state of Utah, as well as a convenient and free search utility to verify the status of individuals with a state-regulated occupation or profession.

As revealed by Utah.Gov in an official report, the applications allow users to take advantage of the iPhone and iPod touch interface for easy searching for or browsing over 1,000 award-winning Citizen, Business, and Government-to-Government services, quickly finding agencies by keyword search, etc. The Utah.Gov application makes it easy to locate more than 1,000 online government services through a simple search interface or through topical browsing, the report outlines.

The Utah.Gov Web site is said to host nearly 2.5 million visitors each month, making the new iPhone application “a gateway” for citizens to interact with the government. According to the report, the main features of the Utah.Gov iPhone application include:

Agency Lookup – Quickly find agencies by keyword search. Displays contact information including phone number, address, and Web site address.
Service Lookup – Easily search for or browse over 1,000 award-winning Citizen, Business, and Government-to-Government services.
Utah News – Keep up with the latest news and announcements from Utah.Gov.

As for the Utah.Gov Professional License Lookup application, it offers a convenient and free search utility to verify the status of individuals with a state-regulated occupation or profession, according to Utah.Gov. The app uses criteria such as active, inactive, suspended, or expired to display the basic license information and color-codes the results.
