Usher’s Wife Stable After Plastic Surgery Scare

Singer Usher was forced to cancel his appearances at Clive Davis’ Annual Pre-Grammy Party and the Grammy Awards over the weekend, due to what was described by Davis as a “serious injury in the family.” Yesterday, word got out that Usher’s wife, Tameka, had suffered serious complications due to plastic surgery, but her publicist is now saying that she is stable and doing alright in a hospital in Brazil.

Not only is the situation not as tragic as the media made it to be, the spokesperson tells People magazine, but Tameka is doing very well – although, admittedly, she was deeply moved by the display of concert and the support coming from the fans. Still, the publicist refuses to reveal exactly what went wrong during surgery, saying instead that the family is asking to be left alone at this difficult time.

“Tameka Raymond [Foster] is in stable condition after suffering complications from routine surgery in Brazil. Her husband Usher is with her at the hospital. No further details will be released, and the family requests privacy at this difficult time.” the rep tells People magazine. Several media outlets continue to believe that Tameka had traveled to Brazil to have some work done on her tummy, presumably because she just gave birth to the couple’s second child in December.

When word got out in the media that Tameka was in serious condition, Usher was still in LA. The moment he found out that something was wrong with his wife, sources say, he was on the first plane to Brazil to be by her bedside. Flying with him was also neurosurgeon Dr. Gabriel Hunt of LA’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, which prompted the media to state that whatever went wrong during Tameka’s surgery must have been truly serious if it required a neurosurgeon.

Usher and Tameka married in August of 2007, after dating for a while. Theirs is a relationship that has never failed to capture the attention of the media, especially since speculation has it that, for a long while, Usher’s own mother disapproved of him marrying the now 37-year-old former stylist. The two have two children now, Naveid Ely Raymond and Usher Raymond V. Tameka has three other kids from a previous relationship.
