The singer claims he isn't afraid to educate his protégé

Taking a look at Bieber's current state of affairs, it doesn't seem like his mentor Usher has done much of that education he claims to have imparted for years, because the Canadian pop star has gotten in a bunch of trouble over the last year, barely dodging jail on a number of occasions.

In an interview with Billboard, Usher boasts that he was never afraid to get rough with Bieber to bring him on the right path when he strayed too far off the reservation. “I’m not happy with all the choices my friend has made,” Usher began to explain.

Usher claims his relationship to Bieber has become more mature

For those of you that don't know, Usher has been Justin's mentor ever since he discovered him on YouTube at age 13 and made a star out of him with the help of manager Scooter Braun. Now Usher confesses that their relationship is “more man-to-man now,” that Justin has grown up.

When asked about Justin's recent troubles with the law, Usher confirms that he doesn't hesitate to get violent with Bieber, “I'll punch him in the [expletive] chest when I need too,” but quickly adds that “and give him a hug and a kiss when I need to.”

Back in February when Justin's antics were at an all-time high and he had also been briefly incarcerated in Miami for DUI, drag racing and resisting arrest, Usher is believed to have staged an intervention for him in Panama, where he flew out to have a vacation, together with Usher's mother, Pattie Mallette.

For Usher, love and discipline go hand in hand

Apart from that, Usher hasn't really been part of Bieber's life, although he claims that “It's more than just mentoring. I love the kid.” Granted, Bieber seems to have settled down a bit after his wild antics at the beginning of the year, focusing now on his love life.

But that too, like everything else in his life, is controversial. He keeps breaking up and making up with Selena Gomez, mostly because he can't help himself flirting with every hot model that comes his way and he also gets caught.

Bieber's fans are eagerly awaiting for him to come up with new material, but apart from some seldom visits to the studio and some failed collaborations with Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez, the pop star has yet to release at least one good song that will put him back on the map.

Also, Bieber's last documentary-movie “Believe” flopped at the box office, a far cry from his first effort “Never Say Never” from 2011, which managed to bring millions of teenaged fans into the movie theaters.

If Bieber ever needed Usher's help and guidance for his music career, that moment would be now.
