As Usher was preparing for Clive Davis’ Annual Pre-Grammy Party at the beginning of February, he learned that his wife had suffered
cardiac and respiratory arrest before getting plastic surgery in Brazil. Now, rumors have it, the singer did not even know that his wife had made the decision to have work done on her tummy, therefore learning that she had been seriously injured was all the more of a shock for him.
Regardless of that, Usher canceled all his appointments, including his appearance at the Grammys, and flew to be by Tameka’s bedside. With him also went neurosurgeon Dr. Gabriel Hunt of the Cedars-Sinai clinic, who was asked to look into the matter. “No one knows for sure why Usher’s wife decided not to inform him of her surgical plans, whether it was intended as a special surprise or Tameka feared disapproval for leaving their sons at home.” gossip blogger Perez Hilton says about why Tameka might not have informed Usher that she wanted a tummy tuck.
Tameka was released from the hospital the other day and is now reportedly doing very well. Two days after the story broke, word got out in the media that she went into cardiac and respiratory arrest as she was put under anesthesia, therefore the surgery did not go on as scheduled, and was put off. So far, Usher has refused to comment on the situation in any other way than having his publicist thank the fans and the media for their concern and support, and to ask for privacy at these difficult times.
Be that as it may, it’s very likely that Tameka was the only one responsible for what happened, sources are pointing out. She just gave birth in December, which means that having surgery in February might have been a bit too quick, which is why things went wrong, some speculate. Luckily, she came out of everything alright.
The President of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery, Jose Tariki, apparently told the New York Daily News that Tameka lied to the doctors by telling them she had had a baby four months before coming for surgery, when in fact, only two had passed. “After a pregnancy, the abdomen muscle is violently stretched, becomes flaccid and swells. The patient needs six to eight months to return to normal and only then can undergo surgery.” Tariki explained.
