UserVoice request asks Microsoft to restore this feature

With Windows 10, Microsoft is bringing back the Start menu after an unexpected removal in Windows 8, thus trying to address consumer feedback and create a desktop that's more appropriate for use with a mouse and keyboard.

To make sure that it appeals to as many users as possible, Microsoft offered a small button in the Start menu that allowed anyone to turn the menu into a Start screen, having the exact same live tile layout in full screen.

The latest build of Windows 10 preview, however, removes this button, so in order to turn the Start menu into a Start screen, users need to go over to the settings screen, which makes more sense, according to Microsoft, because once you set it up, you're expected to stick to an existing configuration.

But not everyone agrees with this, and users turned to UserVoice to call for Microsoft to bring back the quick toggle between the Start menu and the Start screen in future builds of Windows 10.

“The new ‘expand’ button was a gift to Windows insiders who asked for a fluid way to switch between start menu and start screen,” the user suggestion reads.

“Let us be able once again to click an elegant ‘expand full screen’ button within Start, that lets users see their tiles expand and flow onto the start screen (or off the start screen and onto the start menu) in a beautiful animation, where users can see they have the SAME tiles whether they're using start menu or start screen.”

Still enough time to bring it back

While Microsoft doesn't seem to be willing to bring this feature back in Windows 10, there's still enough time to do it, as the new operating system is expected to reach RTM in late June.

Microsoft has already said that the upcoming builds will be more focused on fixing bugs and improving performance, rather than on new features, so it remains to be seen if the company is planning to bring this little button back.

In the meantime, if you want to continue using this Start menu/Start screen toggle, you shouldn't update to build 10122, but you would obviously miss quite a lot of features and improvements that are part of this release.
