UserVoice request calls for “Ludicrous Speed” ring

Microsoft needed approximately two months to finalize work on Windows 10 Technical Preview build 10041, despite the initial promise to release updates at a much faster pace, but the company and its users are now looking into ways to prevent this from happening again in the future.

A post on the UserVoice feedback channel, which is rapidly approaching 1,000 votes, calls for Microsoft to introduce a new ring for Windows insiders that would bring them Windows 10 updates faster, despite the obvious risk of getting buggy builds with tons of issues.

“Some Windows Insiders don't care about the bugs, we want to try out the latest builds and the new features as soon as possible. And we want to give feedback about them. We know that faster builds will have more bugs, and we agree to compromise on that. We understand the risks this might cause,” the post reads.

Microsoft already considering this option

Interestingly, the first who came up with this idea was Gabe Aul, the head of the Windows Insider program, who recently said that he and his team were working on a new way to bring updates faster to users enrolled in the testing effort for the new operating system.

Called “Ludicrous Speed” ring, the new channel could update builds running on insiders' computers every single day, thus allowing them to try out the very latest features designed by Microsoft.

Basically, Microsoft is planning to deliver to users the exact same builds that Windows engineers are running on their computers, so that pretty much everyone can make a more significant contribution to the creation of the next Windows operating system.

Microsoft is compiling Windows 10 builds on a daily basis, but there's no doubt that many of them are actually buggy and can't be released to users, so it remains to be seen if Redmond finds a way to address this issue and update computers faster than before.

In the meantime, a new Windows 10 build is expected next month, while phone insiders might be a bit luckier and get one as soon as the next week.
