Microsoft continues its campaign to move Windows XP users to a newer operating system, this time with a bunch of statements supposed to bring the risk of staying with the old platform into the spotlight.

Brian Walshe, general manager of Microsoft integration at Dimension Data, tells The Age that many consumers still can’t believe that Redmond is killing the 11-year-old operating system, mostly because it still has a pretty large user base.

“I've heard people say that Microsoft can't possibly end support for XP because there are too many people using it, but Microsoft have been very consistent with their messaging for several years,” he is quoted as saying.

Truth is, more than 30 percent of computers worldwide are still powered by Windows XP, which makes Microsoft’s mission to retire the OS a lot more difficult.
