Ubuntu devs are investigating the issues

Users have reported that some of the Bq Aquaris 4.5 Ubuntu Edition phones are stuck in a continuous reboot loop and Canonical took notice. They are now investigating the problem, and they are looking for solutions.

The true test for a new operating system is to get into the hands of regular users, who will probably stress it in ways that can't be anticipated. It's also a good way to ensure that you squash the bugs as soon as possible. The Bq Aquaris 4.5 Ubuntu Edition is the first phone with this operating system sold as such (we're not counting Nexus 4), so any feedback from users is very relevant.

The new devices have been sold only through a number of flash sales, so there are not too many in the wild. The fact that the phones now experience this problem shows that Canonical had the right idea. Many users were upset that the phone was not sold openly in stores, but this is exactly the kind of problem that would have affected many more users.

Continuous reboot loop is not as serious as you might think

Sure enough, not being able to use your phone because it reboots all the time, even plugged in, seems like a serious problem, but some users have reported that resetting it back to factory settings solved this issue. Now Canonical is looking into the problem because the issues shouldn't happen at all, even if there is an easy fix.

"A few of you have reported that your BQ phone got into a continuous reboot loop. As this is a new issue for us and one we cannot yet reproduce we would like to get as much information as possible. If this has happened to you, please describe anything that may have been out of the normally expected sequence or use of the phone prior to this occurring," said Pat McGowan.

A bug entry has been opened regarding this problem, and the issue has been confirmed. It will take a while to pinpoint the culprit, but until then if you have one of the phones you can check the temporary solution posted on askubuntu.com.
