Apple reportedly aware of the issue and working on a fix

A lengthy thread on Apple Support Communities suggests that iOS 8 may be suffering from a bug that causes images sent as attachments in Messages to be deleted. One user claims to have received word from the mothership regarding an upcoming fix.

Most users seem to be reporting the same issue, though admittedly the problem is not alarmingly widespread. This started in October, soon after the official release of iOS 8 (an update riddled with bugs in its first weeks in the wild). In a nutshell, some photos sent as attachments via the Messages app fail to appear while scrolling back in the conversations.

Potential fix coming in iOS 8.1.3

One comment in particular caught our eye. There’s no way to confirm the veracity of this user’s claims, but a person identified on the forum as “nicholasfromlenexa” says he talked to Apple’s techies and he was promised a fix.

“I talked with apple support online via chat, then phone supervisor and then advanced supervisor. They are aware that this is a problem for a significant number of people and have a group of engineers working on it. They said a fix hopefully should be in the next update.  We'll see,” he writes.

The user posted this on December 20, which is about one week after Apple had deployed the latest (and current) iPhone software update, iOS 8.1.2. The company is known to be working on iOS 8.1.3, and according to the latest rumors the bits could be rolled out as early as this week.

It’s worth pointing out that another user joining the discussion in the forum claims to have resolved the problem by restoring his firmware through iTunes.
