Feature suggestion quickly gets votes on UserVoice

Right now, there’s no doubt that only a few users think that the new icons included in Windows 10 look good, and Microsoft itself got the message, so a new icon pack is being designed as we speak.

But while the rage never stops and it’s really impossible to please everyone out there, it’s still very interesting to listen to users’ opinions and see how exactly they’d redesign the icons if they were in charge of this feature of the operating system.

In a post on UserVoice, Windows 10 testers now call for Microsoft to look at the way Apple improved the icons that are part of Yosemite, and make Windows 10 look fresh not only with a new design but also by giving up on the existing icons completely.

“The current ones in the preview are so ugly they're giving me anxiety. They are actually disgusting. Design really matters,” the original message on UserVoice reads.

Icons do matter

There are some people out there who believe that icons are not at all important in Windows 10, and Microsoft and its users should rather focus on making other features better before redesigning the icons.

But icons do matter and their design could make the operating system itself look fresh and modern, and this is one of the reasons so many people are disappointing with Microsoft’s new design.

And looking at Apple’s example is the best way to go, the UserVoice post reads, especially because the fruity-named company went through similar problems before launching Yosemite.

“Just gather your design team and take a look at Apple's Yosemite. And then make Windows look and feel brand new with FRESH, CLEAN, new icons! Get rid of all the old ones, the current ones, all of them and just make them NICE AND CLEAN. Apple have mastered this, and so can Windows,” the post reads.

Fortunately, Microsoft has already started work on a new icon pack, but don’t expect everyone to be pleased with it. It’s impossible to see this happening, so when the time comes, expect a new wave of criticism to be expressed online.
