4MLinux Media Edition 9.0 Beta, a special distribution with a wide set of multimedia tools and software, is now available for download and features the latest tools and applications.

There are many 4MLinux variations, and the Media Edition is one of the most exciting and interesting, mostly because it packs a lot of very good applications dedicated to running all kinds of media files.

The distribution features so many apps and tools that it's hard to find something that users can't play and edit on this system. 4M Media Edition has more software than users will ever need, but that's the beauty of having something for everyone.

The 4MLinux distributions are known for their small size and it takes a lot of work to get all the pieces together in such a small package. A number of other apps can also be installed from the repositories, if they are ever needed.

The 4MLinux Media Edition developer chose to implement the bleeding edge for most of the applications. For playing videos, users will get MPlayer SVN-r37146 with SMPlayer and SMTube SVN-r6225, Qmmp 0.7.7, xine 1.2.5, TiMidity++ 2.14.0, and MikMod 3.3.

For decoding and encoding media files, the developers have integrated many apps and special libraries like FFMpeg Git-2014-04-10, FLAC 1.3.0, GStreamer 0.10.36, LAME 3.99.5, MAD 0.15.2b, MEncoder SVN-r37146, VorbisTools 1.4.0, and WavPack 4.70.0.

Users will find Audacity 2.0.5 and SoX 14.4.1, which can be used for recording. Also, cdparanoia III 10.2, cdrkit 1.1.11, dvd+rw-tools 7.1, DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15, and xorriso 1.3.6 are tools needed to rip any kind of media files.

Other apps included are ImageMagick 6.8.9-2 and XPaint 2.9.10.2 for editing images, but there are many other applications that can be found in the repositories.

The developer also provides 4MLinux Media Edition 9.0 Beta as a Live system, which means that you can easily run the OS without having to install it. All the apps mentioned above are available from the get-go and you won't have to download anything extra to use them to their full extent.

4MLinux is a mini Linux distribution focusing on the following four Ms: Maintenance (system rescue Live CD), Multimedia (e.g. playing video DVDs), Miniserver (using the inetd daemon), and Mystery (a collection of Linux games).

You can download 4MLinux Media Edition 9.0 Beta right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
