Despite the fact that social media websites are mainly used by younger people, many individuals aged over 50 are trying to keep up with the digital times. However, according to McAfee, many of them don’t realize the risks of posting too much information online.

McAfee’s Fifty Plus Booms Online study shows that 88% of the respondents are confident that they’re tech savvy.

However, 57% of those who took part in the survey admitted sharing personal information online. 52% have shared their email address, 27% their phone number and 26% their home address.

16% of individuals aged between 50 and 75 have admitted suffering a negative experience on social media websites. 19% of these incidents have impacted friendships. In 9% of cases, the experience led to a fight with a partner, spouse or friend.
