Microsoft has reached another milestone in the development of its User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) technology, and has announced the availability of a Release Candidate flavor of the product.

Focused on the virtualization of the user state and application layers on desktop computers, UE-V is expected to reach a final release in the fourth quarter of the year.

In fact, it will be released in full flavor along with the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) 2012, Karri Alexion-Tiernan, director of product marketing for Microsoft Desktop Virtualization and MDOP, notes in a recent blog post.

UE-V has been made available for Microsoft’s customers in pre-release flavors a few months back, and Microsoft also provided various details on the product.

Since making the UE-V available, the Redmond-based company has received a great deal of feedback on the product, and the latest improvements included in it are based on that feedback, Alexion-Tiernan notes.

“At TechEd North America and TechEd Europe, as well as on Microsoft Connect, we received feedback from you that UE-V should have the flexibility to be controlled on a per-user basis,” she explains.

“We heard you and this feature is now included in the UE-V RC. You’ll also notice performance improvements throughout and refinements to some of the settings templates for Office 2010, as well as support for the final release of Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012.”

UE-V RC can process settings packages concurrently, and also provides the ability to manage synchronization using security groups. The syncing feature can be controlled through PowerShell and at install time via command line parameters.

Another enhancement that was included in the new release is the option to upgrade to UE-V RC without having to uninstall the UE-V beta release and start from scratch. The move is expected to provide customers with the ability to easily migrate to the new release.

“We have also heard your request to know more as to when UE-V will be available. UE-V will be available for your production deployments in Q4 2012 as part of the Microsoft Desktop Virtualization Pack (MDOP) 2012 release,” Microsoft’s Stephen L Rose explains in a post on the Windows Team Blog.
