Designer imagines a new look for File Explorer

If you’re a Microsoft enthusiast, you have most likely already tried Windows 10, so you do know that File Explorer comes with pretty much the same design as the old version of Windows 8.

But if you’re asking users, Windows 10’s File Explorer should come with a completely revamped design that can better emphasize the company’s modern approach, so new looks and features are a must-have.

That’s why some people create their very own concepts imagining Windows 10 features, and today it’s File Explorer’s turn to be the top star in such a project.

The photo gallery after the article presents you with a completely new look of File Explorer that’s inspired from Office 2013, and by the looks of it, which matches the Windows 10 revamped look really well.

All flat and Metroish

The flat design that was first implemented by Microsoft in October 2012 together with Windows 8 really caused a lot of controversy and it quickly became a love it or hate it kind of thing in the operating system.

This time, however, the flat look brought to us by this concept appears to match the operating system’s overall design in a much more appealing way, so such an approach could be a lot more successful than Microsoft’s main attempt was in 2012.

One of the best things about this imagined version of File Explorer is the support for tabs, which is actually one of the features that users have been asking for since forever. Tab support is expected to arrive at some point in Windows 10, but it’s not yet clear if Microsoft is already working on it or not.

Microsoft: we’ve seen this concept

Gabriel Aul, the Microsoftie whose main responsibility is to get in touch with Windows 10 users and get their feedback, has said on Twitter that Redmond has already seen this concept and has even confirmed that the company actually checks out all such designs whenever they reach the web.

And still, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Microsoft would actually implement these ideas in the upcoming operating system, but there’s no doubt that the company would really make itself a favor by really taking all these concepts into account when improving Windows.

As far as Windows 10 is concerned, the operating system is projected to be released in mid-2015, according to company executives, with a developer preview very likely to see daylight in April, at the BUILD developer conference. A consumer preview build is also expected sometime in spring 2015.
