Thanko has revealed a certain invention that could make life easier for many people, and convenient for just as many: the face-up bed desk, otherwise known as the “napping” desk.

Nowadays, the words “support tools” usually make people think of assistant software programs or phone services that they need to call when they have a problem with a product or another.

Thanko has presented a piece of furniture that gets to be called something similar.

In essence, it is an adjustable, foldable even, desk that can hold a laptop in any position, even upside down if owners cannot do anything but lie on their backs for some reason.

We imagine this could be a great boon for disabled patients that can only move their arms.

Then again, with a price of 5,980 yen (around $76 / 57 Euro), many could end up buying it because of the commodity.

Thanko used aluminum as primary building material and designed the main body with adjustable jointed arms, which enable height adjustment.

The small “desk” at the center can be turned as well, so that the laptop's orientation may be adjusted when needed.

It should be an easy enough task to secure any standard notebook computer to the locking mechanism.

Furthermore, in addition to making laptop use convenient while reclined, Thanko's face-up bed desk can be used when there is no flat ground or desk to place a laptop on.

Speaking of which, the desk is reasonably portable, when it is folded up, as it weighs 1.6 kilograms / 3.5 pounds and measures 585 x 40 x 300 mm / 23 x 1.5 x 11.8 inches.

Buyers should make sure not to strain it though. The maximum weight it can bear when upright is 12 kilograms, 6 when upside down.

Thanko will soon start shipping the face-up bed desk as a limited edition item in Japan. Other countries may or may not get access to it eventually.
