D-Link's PowerLine AV+ Mini Adapter Starter Kit makes Wi-Fi superfluous

The idea of creating a network through a home's power grid may sound like a flight of fancy, but it's actually not a new development, and D-Link has the proof.

Having launched its first PowerLine AV adapters ages ago, it now has a new product to offer, the PowerLine AV+ Mini Adapter Starter Kit, part number DHP-309AV.

Just plug it in any two power sockets in your home and presto! Desktops, laptops, network-connected media players, all can access the network, and each other, even if there is no LAN or Wi-Fi nearby.

The DHP-308AV includes two PowerLine AV adapters (with Push and Secure encryption buttons) and two Ethernet cables.

The connection between them benefits from 128-bit AES encryption and achieves 200 Mbps.

Sales are now possible, online, for $59.99 / 59.99 Euro, while brick and mortar stores will get the adapters in November.
