AirPrint Activator (formerly AirPrintHacktivator) version 1.1 is now 100% Apple files free, according to Netputing, the makers of this simple but extremely useful Mac app. The solution renders pretty much every printer AirPrint-compatible. Using it couldn’t be easier.

Thanks to the new additions in iOS 4.2, iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad owners now have the option to print content directly from their iOS device, as long as there is a supported printer around.

Now, courtesy of Netputing, iOS users can print to any device with AirPrint Activator installed on an “intermediary” Macintosh computer.

Users simply download the freeware app (donations encouraged), follow a few simple steps to hook it up with the printer(s) available on their local network, and start printing right away.

“AirPrint Activator is a small application that will enable a Mac OSX 10.6.5 + iTunes 10.1 hidden feature to allow your shared printer to be visible on your iOS 4.2.1 devices,” the developer explains.

“AirPrint allow you to print from new generation of Apple iPhones, iPad and iPod Touch to a printer shared over your personal WiFi network,” the app’s description goes.

Before AirPrint Activator 1.1, Netputing had released AirPrintHacktivator, which was pretty much the same application as AirPrint Activator except it used proprietary Apple code to get the job done.

“Apple requested that I take down the AirPrintHacktivator page as they stipulate that the application is distributing copyrighted source code and/or software,” the developer writes.

Now, according to Netputing, AirPrint Activator is 100% free of any Apple files.

“AirPrint Activator is now replacing the defunct AirPrint Hacktivator application. It provide[s] the same functionality without the use of any Apple files,” according to Netputing.

Users can confidently install the new app over the previous Hacktivator knowing the installation “will take care of cleaning any Apple files installed by the previous generation Hacktivator when you ‘deactivate’ AirPrint,” the developer claims.

According to Netputing, the AirPrint Activator app only injects a single line in a CUPS configuration when users select to “activate” AirPrint.
