Urban Terror, a multiplayer FPS developed by a studio called FrozenSand that tries to imitate the style of gameplay used by titles like Quake 3 Arena, has been updated by its developers.

The Urban Terror game is making a comeback, and the devs from FrozenSand released a few updates in the past few months that should make it a lot more interesting. The title follows a simple but very efficient motto that will reveal all you need to know about the gameplay, and that is "fun over realism."

The game is built on the Quake III Arena engine, but it doesn't require that particular game to run. Users don't need to do anything special to get the latest version and the installation should be simple enough.

What the devs are saying about it

"Urban Terror started as a realism based 'total conversion' mod for Quake III Arena. Nowadays, Urban Terror is played using the free, stand-alone, ioquake3 engine modified, which doesn't require Quake III Arena, in addition to being an add-on to id Software's Quake III Arena. Urban Terror is 100% free. It is a condition of the End User Licensing Agreement when creating a mod that it not to be released for commercial retail. That means the team who created Urban Terror is doing it for free."

"We used to say, if you can run Quake III Arena then you should be able to play Urban Terror. Since Quake III Arena is now an older game many of today's game machines should be able to run Urban Terror. If you are unsure, download the game and give it a shot," is noted on the official website.

The developer added a new gameplay mode a few weeks ago, called Freeze Tag, and it comes with a couple of maps that are perfect for it. Now, the team from FrozenSand has made some small fixes to that mode. For example, the scoreboard status to FRZN for frozen players has been changed, the players’ stamina is now being reset when the character is frozen, the ThawOutStarted log spam has been fixed, and frozen players are no longer taking environmental damage.

You can find more details about this release on the official website for the game. You can also download the latest Urban Terror version from Softpedia. Keep in mind that the system requirements for this game are quite low. Users will need a Pentium 4 1.2GHz or higher processor, 256 MB of RAM, an NVIDIA or ATI card with 128MB of RAM, and 5 GB of free HDD space.
