Newer software is capable of offering superior protection, according to Microsoft Security Intelligence Report Volume 11 Report (SIRv11), which the Redmond company released this week.

The software giant’s advice for customers is to always make sure they’re running not only up-to-date software, but also to upgrade to the latest versions of the products and services they’re using.

SIRv11, which is focused on the first half of 2011, reveals that Windows 7 offers the best protection out of all supported Windows platforms, including Windows XP and Windows Vista.

In this regard, the report stresses that customers who already made the jump to Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) are enjoying superior security even to that offered by Windows 7 RTM.

Make sure to watch the video at the top of this article and see what Frank Simorjay, senior product marketing manager, Trustworthy Communications, Microsoft, and his two guests have to say on the subject of upgrading software to also upgrade user protection.
