Microsoft urges everyone to dump Windows XP before April 8, 2014

Microsoft hopes to cut Windows XP’s market share to less than 10 percent by April 8, 2014 when it officially discontinues the OS, but users are still reluctant to make the move to a newer platform.

Andrew Brust, CEO of Microsoft analyst firm Blue Badge Insights, thinks that it’s all because business users do not see upgrading as an option right now, and things are unlikely to change in the coming months.

"It's the same for certain business applications where the upgrade –- not just of the OS, but of the hardware –- could destabilize a process that's working just fine for now," Brust says according to CRN.

Microsoft will no longer provide updates and security patches for Windows XP as of April 8, 2014, so the company is urging everyone still running the ancient OS to switch to either 7 or 8 as soon as possible.
