Apple has revealed that iTunes 9.0.2 and Apple TV software 3.0 now allow users to play iTunes Extras and iTunes LP content on their Apple TV. According to the Cupertino-based Mac maker, new versions of previously purchased iTunes Extras and iTunes LP content will be added to the customers' download queue. Users will also receive an email with their availability.

Support document HT3938 posted on October 29, 2009, continues to reveal that the content will be delivered to the customers' iTunes application, on their computer. From there on, users can sync said content to their Apple TV. But there’s a whole process involving “Updating iTunes Extras and LP content for your Apple TV.”

“Once you've received an email letting you know your updated iTunes Extras and iTunes LP content is available, here are the steps you can take to get it,” Apple says. The full set of instructions is reproduced below.

1. Update to iTunes 9.0.2 or later and Apple TV 3.0 or later. 2. Open iTunes. 3. Choose Store > Check for available downloads. 4. If prompted, enter your account name and password. 5. Download the new iTunes Extras and iTunes LPs to your Mac or PC. 6. Sync the movie or album that includes your updated iTunes Extras or iTunes LP to your Apple TV.

Apple asks Apple TV owners to note that, if they checked for downloads and none were available at the time, customers must ensure that their email address is associated with their iTunes Store account.

“If you have previously purchased a non-compatible iTunes Extras or iTunes LP, you will be receiving an email from Apple with instructions on how to download the updated version of your content over the next couple of weeks,” the tech note adds.
