Parallels Inc. has released Parallels Desktop 9.0.23350.941886, a new version of the company’s powerful virtualization solution for Mac users with enhanced support for OS X Mavericks hosts and Windows 8.1 guests, among other things.

Released minutes ago, the latest update for Parallels Desktop 9 addresses stability and performance, and includes a number of features and enhancements.

Enterprise users can now configure the software to start in the background when the computer is switched on. Virtual machines will also launch on startup if they are configured to start automatically.

Now, there’s an option to set a timer for how long the virtual machine will stay powered on.

Users who are having issues with system shortcuts after upgrading to OS X 10.9 Mavericks should no longer experience any problems after this update.

Customers looking to create virtual machines that boot from a Windows 8.1 Boot Camp partition will also be pleased with this release. Plus, the update reportedly resolves an issue with Windows VMs not switching to Coherence mode after the jump to Windows 8.1.

Another problem connected to Windows 8.1 installations is the glitchy Full Screen mode on multiple displays. Some users also reported an issue where the software installs not one, but two instances of Parallels Tools under Windows 8.1. This bug is also squashed.

Mountain Lion guests should now boot correctly after reclaiming disk space, while virtual machines should no longer crash accidentally when switching to Coherence.

While Windows is running in Coherence, the Windows taskbar will no longer show up.

Some general fixes named in the changelog are mentioned below.

“Resolves an issue with some notifications and dialogs marked "Don't show again" still showing each time Parallels Desktop opens. Resolves an issue with some virtual machines crashing accidentally on startup. Resolves an issue with Parallels Desktop crashing accidentally while creating a Parallels account or virtual machine. Resolves an issue with Parallels Desktop not starting after upgrading to a newer version.”

Download Parallels Desktop 9 and try out these new features today. Newcomers can use the program in trial mode for 14 days with no limitations. Existing customers will update for free.
