Canadian mobile phone maker BlackBerry has started to deliver a new update for developer devices out there, so as to provide app builders with the latest enhancements it has made to its mobile OS and dev tools.

A new stable iteration of the BlackBerry 10.2.1 SDK OS is now available for download as version 10.2.1.1927 and can be installed on all dev mobile phones, it seems.

The new release comes to devices with various bug fixes, as well as with a series of improvements, many of which were announced in November, and which were also included in the beta version of the platform.

“We’re kicking off 2014 with the gold release of BlackBerry 10.2.1 SDK OS. This new SDK OS includes various fixes as well as our updated BlackBerry Runtime for Android apps, which we debuted in November as part of the 10.2.1 SDK OS beta,” a post on the BlackBerry developer blog reads.

“Also, long-running headless apps will be published in BlackBerry World for the first time once BlackBerry 10.2.1 begins rolling out in the near future to BlackBerry customers across the globe.”

Developers interested in getting a taste of the latest improvements made to the BlackBerry 10.2.1 SDK OS should head over to this page on the handset vendor’s website to grab the latest 10.2.1 Autoloader.

In case you don’t know the model number for your device, head over to Settings > About > Model Number to find it, then download the appropriate autoloader.

The installation process is pretty straightforward. Simply turn off the device, run the Autoloader on the PC, connect the phone when the prompt shows “Connecting to Bootrom,” enter your password if one is set, and complete the setup wizard after the handset reboots.

The BlackBerry 10.2.1 SDK OS (10.2.1.1927) can also be installed by developers on commercially available handsets. However, it does not replace the full BlackBerry 10 OS, and is meant only for testing purposes.

You can download BlackBerry 10.2.1 SDK OS (10.2.1.1927) from Softpedia as well. You might also want to grab the BlackBerry 10 Device Simulator, as it has also been updated.
