Microsoft continues to evolve its home server operating system. In this context, the Redmond company has made available for download an update designed to integrate with Windows Home Server Power Pack 1. The refresh, which went live on February 24, 2009, is now up for grabs via WU. “The Windows Home Server team is releasing a small update to the product. You can check if you have Windows Update turned on, by opening the Windows Home Server Console - Settings - General page,” revealed Jonas Svensson, community program manager for the Windows Home Server Team.

At the same time, users of Windows Home Server PP1 with Automatic Updates enabled will have the refresh downloaded and installed without having to baby-sit the process. Microsoft informed that in the eventuality in which the Home Server Connector Software folder in the home server’s shared Software folder was modified or deleted, computers connected to the server would experience functionality issues following the deployment of updates to Windows Home Server PP1.

Upcoming updates for Windows Home Server will take the measure of restoring the files in the Home Server Connector Software folder that were initially provided by Microsoft. The company informed that it could not do the same for files that were provided by the hardware manufacturer.

“The update improves the process by which the Windows Home Server Connector Software gets updated. Additionally, this update resolves certain issues that could occur when restoring files and folders from Windows Home Server, such as the opening of a Home Computer Backup stalling at 79% to 81% complete. The update should be automatically downloaded and installed on your home server over the next several days, if you have Windows Update turned on.”

In addition, the refresh makes it possible for users to access home computer backups independent of whether or not they run the home computer backup database repair wizard previously.
