Update SharePoint Server 2010 RTM

Even though mid-July has already passed, Microsoft only now released the first updates for SharePoint Server 2010 RTM, although the refreshes were initially set up for launch the previous month. According to information supplied by the Redmond company, the SharePoint Server 2010 hotfix package (Filterpack-x-none.msp); Search Server 2010 hotfix package (Word-x-none.msp, Wordconv-x-none.msp); SharePoint Foundation 2010 hotfix package (Sts-x-none.msp) and SharePoint Server 2010 hotfix package (Osrchwfe-x-none.msp;Pplwfe-x-none.msp;Spswfe-x-none.msp) were initially planned for release on June 29, 2010.

Steve Chen, a support engineer for the GTSC EMEA SharePoint Team, confirmed that the two refreshes were in fact, delayed. “After a couple of weeks delay the June CU for SharePoint 2010 has been released last night. Unfortunately this time we don't deliver the updates as "Uber" or "Server"-Package! So if needed, you may download and install each fix one-by-one,” he stated.

At the time of this article, KB2281364 was yet to go live. However, SharePoint 2010 RTM customers were already able to grab KB2124512, KB2028568, KB983319 and KB983497. The promise from Microsoft is that the last remaining June 2010 refresh for SharePoint Server 2010 RTM would also go live soon.

Microsoft released SharePoint Server 2010 to manufacturing along with the rest of the Office 2010 productivity suite in April 2010. But unlike the rest of the Office 2010 suite, customers were granted access to the RTM bits of SharePoint Server 2010 in May, with the business launch of the product. At this point in time, the Redmond company is offering a free, trial-based version of SharePoint Server 2010 RTM for download to customers looking to test drive the solution before deciding whether to buy it or not.
