Barnes & Noble has outed a new firmware update targeted at its NOOK HD and HD+ Android tablets, namely version 2.2.0, which adds a few interesting features that improve the devices’ usability.

To be clearer, the newly released update adds the annual subscriptions through which users can start a free trial on a NOOK magazine and enables TalkBack in more places so that navigating through Home, Library, Email, and browser to be smoother even for vision-impaired owners.

In addition to that, firmware 2.2.0 also adds on-screen alerts about great deals regarding NOOK books, magazines, and others, and if this feature bothers you, just turn it off directly from Settings → General → NOOK Notifications.

As for installing this version, download the proper firmware for your tablet, make sure the slate has enough battery (the producer recommends at least 20%), connect it to the computer, and copy the firmware file onto the root folder of the tablet’s internal storage.

Now disconnect the devices, and after a few minutes when the tablet enters sleep mode, it will automatically recognize the update file and initiate the upgrade process. When the installation is complete, the tablet will restart and go back to the unlock screen.

Bear in mind that, while applying the new firmware, the slate must remain turned on. Moreover, you should go to Settings → All Settings → Device Information and check if the currently installed version matches the one you have just updated to – a good idea after any firmware update.

That being said, download Firmware 2.2.0 for Barnes & Noble NOOK HD or download Firmware 2.2.0 for Barnes & Noble NOOK HD+, take into account the above-mentioned aspects, and enjoy your newly update device.
