The release lets you set passwords using special characters

NETGEAR has made available a new firmware package targeted at GS516TP switches, namely version 6.0.1.16, which allows you to set up passwords using special characters (such as <, >, &, and others) and fixes a time-range issue.

Specifically speaking, when applying the same time-range to several ports with the previous firmware, only one of them would work well.

In addition to that, the new release improves the overall performance by including additional PoE debug commands, setting the buffered max log entries number to 50 (from 64), and resolving the 3~6 sec delay encountered when powering on PoE via SNMP.

Moreover, version 6.0.1.16 also fixes the problem where no value could be retrieved from MIB object table (Dot1dTpFdbTable), as well as the one with the IGMP Snooping admin mode that wouldn’t be saved after performing a restart.

When it comes to limitations, NETGEAR highlights that switching between “Switch” and “Router” modes cannot be done without a system reboot, as well as that Dynamic VLAN assignment and DiffServ Simple policy can only be used in “Switch” mode.

Another important aspect that you should take into account is that after performing the upgrade, the GS516TP will require about 8 minutes to boot because the device will auto-initiate the PoE firmware upgrade. Therefore be patient and don’t turn off the unit.
