A fresh update is in place for Windows Media Center running on 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows Vista. According to Microsoft, the updates, available for download immediately, are designed to address a set of issues impacting Windows Media Center on Windows Vista. Of course that only the Home Premium and Ultimate editions of the operating system will be able to implement the update rollup. Much in the same manner as the Redmond company is issuing updates for Internet Explorer, this is in fact the June 2007 Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista. The updates can be accessed via Windows Update or through the Windows Download Center.

Microsoft revealed that the cumulative update for Media Center on Vista will replace four previous releases form January, April, May and June 2007. The rollup will resolve issues when "Windows Media Center does not correctly configure a combo TV tuner that supports both ATSC and NTSC signals on a Windows Vista-based computer (929011); resizing the Windows Media Center window in Windows Vista, video playback may stop (932753); and when the audio in Live TV or on a DVD in Windows Media Center [stops] after you wake a computer that is running Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate (931967)."

Additionally, the June 2007 Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista will replace all the previous fixes included in the April rollup. The June update will also provide users with a collection of fixes for the Media Center Extensibility Platform, and "an update to the Digital Cable Card component to provide better support for interaction between the digital cable tuner, the CableCARD, and Media Center," as Microsoft informed.

Currently, Microsoft is hard at work on the development of Windows Fiji, the next version of Windows Media Center. Speculations related to the availability date of the upcoming version of Media Center pointed initially to the end of 2007, but it looks like it will actually be released in the second half of 2008. The June rollup can be downloaded from Cumulative Update for Windows Media Center for Windows Vista (32-bit) and from Cumulative Update for Windows Media Center for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems.
