Clement Lefebvre proudly
announced two days ago (April 21st) the plans for the artwork of the upcoming Linux Mint 9 operating system. Dubbed Isadora, Linux Mint 9 will be based on the unreleased Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) operating system and will include some new and beautiful artwork. The most important thing to mention is the fact that the window buttons in the title bar will remain on the right side!

"We looked into the making of a metallic looking theme, it was even mentioned publicly and I’m sorry to disappoint. Widgets had to use background pictures to achieve that effect and although it looked really nice on the desktop it was significantly impacting the performance of the system. We’ll still look into this and into ways of achieving this effect without making the system slower in the future, but it will not happen for Linux Mint 9." - Clement Lefebvre said on the Linux Mint blog.

Linux Mint 9 (Isadora) will include an updated version of the MintDesktop utility, which will allow users to change the layout of the title bar buttons: Traditional, Mac and Ubuntu styles.

Moreover, there are four new wallpapers, created by users of the Linux Mint community, that await the approval of the Linux Mint developers.

The names of the above wallpapers are, in the order of appearance: AirMint (created by dlkreations), Emotion (created by distro hopper), LM9 (created by Zwopper) and Black leather (created by maxsideburn). However, a contest for the Linux Mint 9 default background is also held, as we speak, on the 99designs.com website. Artists are welcomed to submit their work!

Linux Mint is and will always be an elegant, easy-to-use, up-to-date, 100% free and comfortable Linux operating system based on the very popular Ubuntu OS. It offers paid commercial support to companies and individuals. Also, free community support is available from the forums and the IRC channel.

I think this will be the first release that Linux Mint looks like the outdated OS in comparison to Ubuntu. How uninspiring is that window decoration/theme/metacity/etc. This new Ubuntu Theme is the one I have had to customize the least of all the distros so far. Just trade the dark theme for the new Radience theme, delete bottom panel, add dock, and done.

Still better than the hack job PCLINUXOS did to KDE 4.4.2. It may run well for KDE but damn they a better theme designer!

Me gusta mucho Min 7 y 8.
