Video game developer Supermassive Games and publisher Sony are announcing that they are aiming to launch the new Until Dawn on the PlayStation 4 home console on Tuesday, August 25 of this year, with a new trailer delivered to show off the most important features of the title.

The official PS Blog announcement explains that the two companies are aiming to deliver more details about the experience in the coming months, with a focus on the ways gamers will be able to interact with the game world.

Until Dawn will include a character voiced by Peter Stormare, an actor who has starred in a variety of movies and TV shows, including The Big Lebowski and Arrow.

Supermassive and Sony state, "He gave some incredibly powerful performances in the motion capture studio, and you can tell from the end result in the game that he had some fun with the character. We couldn’t be happier to have him in the games, and I can’t wait for you to see him in full flow."

Until Dawn is now available for pre-orders and those who pay for it before actual launch will be able to unlock a special scene in the game for free, which involves Matt and Emily, a new couple, as they discover that they are being watched.

The PlayStation 4 needs some bigger exclusives before the end of the year

Until Dawn is an interesting project, which was initially set to be introduced on the PlayStation 3 and was designed to use the motion tracking Move peripheral.

The rebooted title is now designed to boost the PS4 during the fall launch season when it lacks a line-up filled with big titles.

Until Dawn is a survival horror experience, that tracks eight friends as they explore an isolated cabin where a serial killer tracks them and tries to isolate each one before attacking.

Supermassive has said that it wants to create a video game that requires multiple playthroughs to be understood in its entirety, with gamers asked to make different choices and to try to react in new ways to escape their fate.

The studio says that it will use a clear decision system and an auto-save mechanic to make sure that players cannot simply reload to prevent a loved character from dying over the course of the experience.
